  26               <p>I've been thinking again about Miku Expo recently.</p>
  27               <p>
  28                 I still kind of can't believe it was real? Miku is this nebulous
  29                 thing that's basically just an instrument, yet on one night in
  30                 October last year, she was real and playing music in London. An
  31                 experience that really hit me quite hard.

  34                 I've been to a lot of gigs in my life. A few of them have been
  35                 like that - concerts that feel unreal, like they shouldn't
  36                 really happen? It's a brag but I once won tickets to see
  37                 Gorillaz' dress rehearse for their Glastonbury set in like,
  38                 2010, and that was genuinely insane.

  41                 But obvs that was insane because it was so small, like. 30
  42                 people, maybe? Lou Reed was sat behind me asleep until he was
  43                 needed, lol. But Miku was a big gig, in Wembley Arena, with
  44                 hundreds if not thousands of people there. Yet it still felt
  45                 really revelatory?

  48                 It was just kinda surreal. The opening song of the set was
  49                 Anamanaguchi's Miku, a favourite of tiktokers. I'm a longtime
  50                 guchi fan, pre-Endless Fantasy, and I've seen them all three
  51                 times they've done a UK tour. And all three times they've played
  52                 tiny little venues; the Bodega in Nottingham holds maybe 200
  53                 people max?

  55               <p>
  56                 And to see that track performed by Miku at a venue orders of
  57                 magnitude bigger than anything Anamanaguchi have played here
  58                 was, frankly, utterly surreal. I loved it! I mean, I loved the
  59                 whole set, it was amazing to see artists like Kira, synthion and
  60                 SAWTOWNE get represented alongside the classic big hitter
  61                 vocaloid producers.
  62               </p>
  63               <p>
  64                 We went in cosplay, too! First gig I've been to in cosplay,
  65                 probably reasonably, but again a lovely choice because so did so
  66                 many other people! I think this was helped by MCM being the same
  67                 weekend so plenty of people came straight from the con in
  68                 cosplay.
  69               </p>
  70               <p>
  71                 I was Magical Mirai 2023 Miku! Just cause the wig is bananaramas
  72                 big. It was a good choice honestly, super comfortable
  73                 streetwear, and while the wig was unwieldy it was honestly
  74                 really fun to dance around in. I mean it ended up fucked,
  75                 obviously, sweat + dancing + close proximity to a million other
  76                 people tends to fuck up a wig something fierce. Cat was
  77                 <i>The Vampire</i> Miku too and so got insanely excited when
  78                 that was second on the set list, lol.

  81                 But, yeah. Just a kinda insane experience that I really loved. I
  82                 am so excited for the next time Miku comes to the UK!! Next time
  83                 I'm getting tickets Avery and Asa.
