  45                 OK this is a silly post but my friends asked me for a full
  46                 review of the new kfc zinger double down. So here it is.

  49                 The double down is The Goblin Meal To End All Goblin meals. Two
  50                 chicken fillets as the buns in a burger, with something
  51                 (previously bacon, now a hash brown) in the middle. It sounds
  52                 horrible and honestly it kind of is, but that good kind of
  53                 horrible that you only get with a really grotty fast food meal.

  56                 It's awful. I love it. Haven't had one since they were last
  57                 about in idk, 2019?

  60                 Anyway they've made a new one and today I ate it. Was it good?
  61                 Let's find out!

  64               <p>OK I have just finished eating it. It is Bad.</p>

  66                 The old double down was bad, but you kinda knew what you were
  67                 getting. It was just two slabs of chicken, a bit of processed
  68                 cheese, and a slice of bacon. In reality those other two
  69                 elements didn't make much of a dent in the flavour profile and
  70                 all you really tasted was KFC chicken.

  73                 Some elements are still ok, the chicken is fine, the cheese is
  74                 still shite but edible. But god, the hash brown?

  77                 The addition of the hash brown messes with both the consistency
  78                 and the flavour; it's now a weird mess of stodge that is
  79                 honestly quite unpleasant in the mouth.

  82                 I will admit, me aging and the diet I've been on in prep for
  83                 surgery in March has changed my response to a lot of fast food;
  84                 I had a dominos pizza the other week as a treat and I simply did
  85                 not like it anymore. So me disliking it may not all be on the
  86                 double down, but it certainly didn't help itself.

  89                 So yeah do not rate. I wouldn't buy it if I were you. 3/10.

  92               <h3>UPDATE: 01/03/2025</h3>

  94                 I hypothesised that the root issue of the new double down was
  95                 the hash brown. And I am a woman of science, so I needed to test
  96                 my hypothesis, so today I visited my local KFC and ordered
  97                 another double down without the hash brown.
  98               </p>
  99               <p>
 100                 I am pleased to report that my hypothesis was correct. Removing
 101                 the hash brown corrected the balance of the item, cutting out
 102                 the stodge and accentuating the crunch of the coating with the
 103                 chicken and sauce. Much, much better. Solid fast food item, 4
 104                 stars.
